BEIJING: Vivo will officially unveil OriginOS 7, its next major smartphone software update, during the 2026 Vivo Developer Conference on September 16, with the company already teasing significant visual and performance changes.
Teasers published on Weibo show OriginOS 7 adopting translucent materials, lighting effects and fluid animations, creating an appearance similar to Apple’s Liquid Glass design language.
Vivo will also introduce its self-developed Blue River OS 4 during the conference while providing updates on its artificial intelligence strategy and broader technology ecosystem.
OriginOS 7 Introduces Translucent Interface and Faster Rendering
One major change involves a new material system Vivo calls “light and shadow aesthetics.” Interface elements interact with underlying content, allowing lighting and shadows to appear through translucent surfaces and creating greater visual depth.
Furthermore, Vivo is introducing pixel-level “see-through colour” technology. The system can adjust individual areas in real time when complex backgrounds make text difficult to read, improving contrast and visibility.
Vivo has also rebuilt its Blue River rendering engine around Virtual GPU 4.0. According to the company, OriginOS 7 renders 14% faster than OriginOS 6.
Liquid Animations and Interactive Lock Screens Arrive
Meanwhile, the new liquid animation system will respond directly to user interactions. Pressing buttons can create ripple effects, while dragging across the display can alter lighting and shadows along the gesture path.
Additionally, Vivo is redesigning the lock screen with a Liquid Theme that reacts when users tilt or shake their phones, producing jelly-like movements and water-ripple effects.
A separate Flash Card Theme will allow users to transform photos, characters or locations into lock-screen cards.
Users will also be able to customise clock fonts to complement their selected lock-screen designs.
