Veteran Pakistani actor Rashid Mehmood has spoken about months without regular acting work and the growing financial pressure caused by rising fuel, grocery and household expenses.
In a recent video, Mehmood said opportunities for senior performers had become increasingly limited despite their decades of contribution to Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
He also discussed his health difficulties, saying joint pain had affected him for the past five months. Mehmood added that he already had a heart condition and was dealing with additional health challenges while struggling to find work.
Actor Reflects on Decades in Television Industry
Mehmood said artists of his generation helped develop Pakistan’s television industry and introduced audiences to the country’s drama tradition.
Furthermore, he reflected on spending his career connected with Pakistan, its culture and entertainment industry, while expressing disappointment over the lack of opportunities now available to veteran performers.
The actor also recalled receiving national recognition, including a Presidential Award. However, he said he had never sought honours from anyone and viewed the recognition he received as a blessing from Allah.
Rising Household Expenses Add Financial Pressure
Meanwhile, Mehmood highlighted the effect of inflation on everyday life, particularly the increasing cost of fuel, groceries and other household necessities.
He cited spending Rs4,000 on fuel for his vehicle as an example of the financial pressures he currently faces.
Moreover, the veteran performer appealed to authorities to consider the difficulties confronting people simultaneously dealing with unemployment, health problems and rising living costs.
Mehmood has appeared in numerous Pakistani television productions during his long career, including Shaheen, Nizam, Kajal Ghar, Andhera Ujala, Mirza Ghalib, Riyasat and Mohabbat Rooth Jaye To.
His remarks have renewed discussion about employment opportunities and financial security for veteran performers after decades of work in Pakistan’s television and entertainment industry.
