Tehran sought sanctions relief and recognition over Hormuz
TEHRAN: A well-informed Iranian source has claimed that Tehran officially received Washington’s response to Iran’s latest proposal regarding future nuclear negotiations, with the United States reportedly rejecting all Iranian conditions.
According to the source, Iran’s negotiating team presented five key demands that Tehran wanted addressed before entering renewed talks over the nuclear file and broader regional issues.
The reported conditions included ending ongoing conflicts across the region, lifting all US sanctions imposed on Iran, releasing frozen Iranian financial assets, compensating Tehran for war-related damages and losses, and recognising Iran’s sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz.
Furthermore, the source alleged that Washington dismissed the conditions in their entirety, although neither Iranian nor American officials publicly confirmed the claims at the time of reporting.
The reported development comes amid rising regional tensions and continuing uncertainty surrounding diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington.
Regional tensions continue to complicate diplomacy
Meanwhile, negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme have remained stalled for months due to disagreements over sanctions, regional security concerns, and Tehran’s nuclear activities.
Iran has repeatedly demanded guarantees regarding sanctions relief and economic access before agreeing to broader negotiations with the United States and Western powers.
Additionally, tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz have intensified following disruptions in regional shipping routes and ongoing security concerns linked to the Middle East conflict.
Political analysts believe the reported rejection could further complicate efforts to revive diplomacy and reduce tensions in the region.
At the same time, international powers continue urging both sides to maintain communication channels and avoid escalation that could threaten global energy markets and regional stability.
Neither the Iran nor the United States has released an official statement confirming the reported exchange or outlining possible next diplomatic steps.
