Survey reflects widespread uncertainty and frustration over ongoing war
WASHINGTON: A majority of Americans believe the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran has become more challenging than the Trump administration initially expected, according to a new survey reported by CBS News.
The poll, conducted jointly by CBS News and YouGov between July 22 and July 24, found that 76 percent of respondents said the war had proven more difficult than anticipated. Meanwhile, 20 percent believed the conflict had unfolded as expected, while only 4 percent said it had been easier than expected.
The findings suggest growing public concern over the direction and complexity of the military confrontation as fighting continues.
Majority express uncertainty about conflict
The survey also highlighted widespread unease among Americans regarding the war. According to the results, 58 percent of respondents said they felt uncertain about the conflict, making it the most commonly reported sentiment.
In addition, 57 percent said they felt frustrated, while 36 percent described themselves as pessimistic. By contrast, only 19 percent said they were optimistic about the situation.
The poll indicates that negative or uncertain perceptions significantly outweigh positive views as the conflict continues to evolve.
Views divided on strategic advantage
When asked which side currently holds the upper hand, respondents offered mixed assessments.
Around 40 percent believed the United States was in the stronger strategic position. However, 38 percent said neither side appeared to have a clear advantage, suggesting many Americans see the conflict as evenly balanced.
Meanwhile, 22 percent of those surveyed believed Iran currently holds the advantage.
The survey results, as reported by CBS News, provide a snapshot of public opinion during the ongoing conflict but do not indicate future political or military developments. Public attitudes may continue to shift as events unfold and additional information becomes available.
