American forces hit air defence, missile, drone and naval infrastructure amid rising Gulf tensions
WASHINGTON: The United States carried out another round of strikes on Iran, targeting around 90 military sites, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
In a statement, CENTCOM said American forces struck a range of Iranian military assets, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance facilities, missile and drone storage sites, naval assets and logistics infrastructure.
The latest operation followed previous US strikes aimed at degrading Iranโs military capabilities after attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington has accused Tehran of threatening freedom of navigation in one of the worldโs most important maritime routes.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were designed to weaken Iranโs ability to launch further attacks against commercial shipping and regional targets.
Strait of Hormuz remains central flashpoint
The latest escalation comes amid continued tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, where several commercial ships have reportedly come under attack in recent days.
US officials have repeatedly warned that any threat to international navigation through the waterway would draw a military response. The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making security in the area a major concern for regional and international markets.
CENTCOM says forces remain ready
CENTCOM said US forces remain on alert and are prepared to respond to further threats in the region.
The renewed strikes have added to fears of a wider confrontation between Washington and Tehran, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the conflict from spiralling further.
Regional governments and international observers are closely monitoring developments as military activity intensifies across the Gulf. The latest operation signals that the United States is prepared to continue using force if it believes Iranian actions threaten commercial shipping, US personnel or allied interests in the region.
