Trump Administration Cracks Down on Illegal Immigration
The embassy emphasized that the Trump Administration is committed to ending illegal immigration and protecting US borders and citizens. Similar warnings have not been issued by US missions in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar, or China.
Mass Deportations and Military Use
Since taking office in January, Trump has implemented strict immigration policies, including mass deportations. In February, a US military aircraft deported 104 Indians, marking the first time military transport was used for this purpose.
H-1B Visa Fee Increase and Impacts
In September, the administration imposed a $100,000 fee for H-1B skilled worker visas. These visas allow foreign workers, such as engineers, scientists, and computer programmers, to work in the US initially for three years, extendable to six. The US revoked around 80,000 non-immigrant visas in 2025 for offences including driving under the influence, assault, and theft. Driving under the influence accounted for 16,000 revocations, assault for 12,000, and theft for 8,000. Additionally, over 6,000 student visas were cancelled for overstays and legal violations, including minor cases linked to terrorism support.
