US Chargรฉ dโAffaires Natalie Baker concluded her official visit to Sindh from January 25 to 31, 2026. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, regional stability, and economic development in Pakistan.
Baker engaged with political leaders, business representatives, and local officials to discuss shared priorities.
Promoting Industrial Growth
In Sukkur, Baker toured major industrial facilities, including the Continental Biscuits factory, established in partnership with a US company.
She described the project as a prime example of Pakistan-US economic collaboration. โThis partnership demonstrates how we are creating jobs, encouraging innovation, and building shared prosperity,โ she said.
She noted that American technologies and expertise are improving industrial performance and modernizing supply chains across Pakistan. In Mirpurkhas, Baker visited a sugar mill and ethanol, carbon dioxide, and paper plants. US technology supports high-quality production and enhanced access to international markets at these facilities.
Baker emphasized the importance of leveraging local manufacturing and agricultural resources, particularly those supported by the Indus River, for long-term development.
Cultural and Historical Engagement
During her trip, Baker paid homage at the Bhutto family mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Larkana. She highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the site. Additionally, she met Hindu community leaders to reaffirm US support for religious freedom and interfaith harmony.
Sports and Education Initiatives
In Hyderabad, Baker visited Niaz Stadium to showcase American expertise in sports development. She welcomed cricketโs inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Hyderabad will also serve as the base for a new Pakistan Super League team backed by a US investor.
Separately, US Consulate Karachiโs Political and Economic Counsellor Peter McSheri engaged with local governance leaders in Sukkur. He met Mayor Arsalan Islam Sheikh and Sindh Assembly Speaker Awais Qadir Shah to discuss fair trade and municipal development.
McSheri also visited Sukkur IBA University to review the US-funded STEM Powered programme. Developed in collaboration with Vanderbilt University, the programme equips youth with modern skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Officials emphasized that Bakerโs visit reflects a renewed commitment to a strong and sustainable Pakistan-US partnership. The cooperation focuses on economic growth, institutional development, stability, and shared prosperity. The visit also aligns with celebrations for Americaโs 250th anniversary, highlighting long-term bilateral engagement.
