Washington Expands Assistance for Air Defence Capabilities
The US State Department announced on Thursday that it approved a possible $108.1 million package for Ukraine aimed at sustaining and strengthening the Hawk missile system.
According to a congressional notification, Ukraine requested multiple forms of equipment and support services related to FrankenSAM Hawk missile systems. The proposed package includes erectable mast trailers, maintenance assistance, major system modifications, spare parts, accessories, consumables, repair services, and return support.
Additionally, the agreement includes engineering, technical, and logistical assistance from the US government and contractors to help maintain operational effectiveness.
US officials stated that the proposed package aligns with broader foreign policy and national security objectives by supporting Ukraine’s security needs during ongoing regional challenges.
Furthermore, Washington described Ukraine as a strategic partner contributing to political and economic stability across Europe.
Officials said strengthening Ukraine’s defensive infrastructure remains an important component of broader regional security efforts.
Officials Say Programme Will Strengthen Defensive Readiness
The State Department stated that the package would enhance Ukraine’s ability to confront current and future threats by improving integrated air defence capabilities for self-defence and regional security operations.
Officials also indicated that Ukraine would face no major difficulty integrating the equipment and services into its existing military structure.
Meanwhile, the department emphasised that the proposed sale would not significantly alter the basic military balance within the region.
The principal contractor responsible for the programme is Sierra Nevada Corporation, based in Englewood, Colorado.
Additionally, US authorities said the proposed assistance would not negatively affect American defence readiness or weaken existing military capabilities.
The announcement reflects continued American support efforts aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defence systems and operational capacity as regional security concerns persist.
Observers continue monitoring military assistance programmes and broader geopolitical developments surrounding defence cooperation between Washington and Kyiv.
