US and Saudi Arabian forces carried out joint precision strikes against Iran-aligned groups in Iraq, the US Central Command said.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes targeted logistics and weapons facilities in eastern Iraq on July 28. The operation followed more than 30 drone attacks.
The command said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps directed those attacks against US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
However, CENTCOM said the attacks against US forces failed to achieve their objectives.
Moreover, the command said Iran-aligned groups in Iraq attempted more than 600 attacks against US citizens and facilities between February and April.
CENTCOM warned that the IRGC and its allied groups must stop attacks to prevent further US military action.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry said the joint strikes responded to attacks launched from Iraqi territory against petroleum facilities inside the kingdom.
The ministry cited Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognises the right to self-defence.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia said it conducted precise and targeted strikes with the US against locations linked to attacks on its energy infrastructure.
The ministry stressed that Riyadh does not seek escalation but will respond to any aggression.
Meanwhile, local media reported that US and Saudi aircraft targeted Popular Mobilisation Forces positions.
Explosions reportedly occurred in several Iraqi areas, including Basra and Wasit province.
The PMF command in Basra said airstrikes hit its headquarters early Wednesday.
Separately, Iranian forces reportedly launched ballistic missiles toward US military installations in Jordan.
CENTCOM later said Iran’s Revolutionary Guards fired multiple missiles at US forces in the Middle East.
However, the command said US forces successfully intercepted all Iranian missiles and remained on high alert.
