The US Afghanistan War Commission has acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the two-decade Afghanistan conflict, according to Pakistan’s military media wing.
The commission also appreciated Pakistan’s continued contribution to regional peace and stability, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Monday.
The remarks came during a meeting between a commission delegation and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The delegation was led by commission co-chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr Colin F. Jackson.
The commission is reviewing the United States’ 20-year military and diplomatic engagement in Afghanistan. Its work includes examining the strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions of the conflict.
According to ISPR, the discussions covered Pakistan’s support during the conflict, the regional security environment and developments in Afghanistan.
Munir Highlights Pakistan’s Experience
Field Marshal Munir presented Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that shaped the Afghanistan conflict.
He also highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan during the prolonged conflict in its neighbouring country.
Munir stressed that Pakistan’s regional experience should be included in any assessment of the war. He also highlighted the importance of considering the conflict’s wider strategic, diplomatic and operational impact.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss Afghanistan’s current security situation and its implications for regional stability.
The commission’s acknowledgment comes as Washington reviews its two-decade engagement in Afghanistan and examines lessons from the conflict.
