Pentagon advised against ground operations in scorching summer temperatures in ME
Unverified reports attributed to Iranian sources have claimed that US President Donald Trump considered the possibility of a large-scale ground operation against Iran after concluding that previous airstrikes had failed to achieve their strategic objectives.
According to the claims, Trump allegedly instructed US military leadership around two months ago to examine plans for a potential ground offensive. However, the reports further allege that senior defence officials outlined several operational and logistical obstacles that would delay any such campaign.
The reports claim military planners argued that extreme summer temperatures across the Middle East, which can exceed 50 degrees Celsius, would make large-scale ground operations difficult. Consequently, they allegedly recommended winter as the most suitable period for any potential offensive.
The same reports also contend that existing US troop levels in the region would be insufficient for such an operation. According to the claims, planners estimated that approximately 500,000 personnel would be required, compared with the roughly 30,000 US troops currently deployed across the region.
The unconfirmed accounts further allege that military officials requested at least six months to prepare for any ground campaign. They reportedly cited the need to deploy additional personnel, strengthen logistics and expand operational infrastructure before any action could begin.
According to the claims, planners also highlighted the need to repair or replace radar systems allegedly damaged during previous attacks, rebuild or renovate military bases across the Middle East and increase the long-term presence of US naval forces in the Persian Gulf to support sustained operations.
Neither the White House nor the US Department of Defense has publicly confirmed the existence of such discussions or any plans for a ground invasion of Iran. Likewise, no independent evidence has emerged to substantiate the claims circulating through Iranian sources.
As diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran continues alongside ongoing regional tensions, analysts caution that unverified reports should be treated carefully until supported by official statements or independently confirmed information.
