Alleged discussions link British move to pressure campaign, but claims remain unconfirmed
TEHRAN: Unverified claims circulating on social media and messaging platforms allege that the recent departure of British diplomats from Tehran formed part of a coordinated political pressure campaign involving the United States and several Western allies. However, no official evidence has been presented to support the assertions.
According to the report, a meeting of European ambassadors took place at the residence of the French ambassador in Tehran on July 20. The account claims representatives from South Korea, New Zealand and Japan also attended the gathering.
The report alleges that the French ambassador criticised Iran’s temporary detention of two French diplomats and called on fellow diplomats to express support for the French Embassy. Neither France nor Iran has publicly confirmed the details of the alleged meeting.
Alleged disagreements among ambassadors
The report further claims the British chargé d’affaires said he intended to leave Iran within days and argued that the United States expected its partners to cooperate in increasing political pressure on Tehran.
It also alleges that several ambassadors opposed the proposal, while the French ambassador reportedly suggested the timing of diplomatic departures could coincide with the traditional summer holiday period. In addition, the report claims the German ambassador opposed an early departure because of a scheduled diplomatic engagement with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
No official transcript or independent evidence has been released to verify the alleged conversations.

The report also claims the German ambassador privately criticised the British position and suggested London expected Iran to expel several British diplomats following Britain’s designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a national security threat.
Neither the British Foreign Office, the French Foreign Ministry, the German government, the US State Department nor Iranian authorities have publicly confirmed the reported discussions or the alleged motivations behind diplomatic movements.
As a result, the claims remain unverified. Diplomats routinely adjust staffing levels during the summer months, and without official confirmation, the reported conversations and alleged coordination cannot be independently substantiated.
