American rapper Macklemore has vowed to continue supporting Palestine until his last breath. He made the declaration while launching his Free Palestine Tour in Dublin, Ireland.
The Grammy-winning artist received loud applause from thousands of fans at the 3Arena. Many attendees waved Palestinian flags and wore traditional keffiyeh scarves during the concert.
Macklemore used the event to defend his decision to speak publicly about the suffering in Gaza. He argued that calls for Palestinian freedom should not provoke attempts to silence artists.
Macklemore Defends His Message
During the performance, Macklemore said the words “Free Palestine” represented love, liberation and shared humanity. He insisted that his message was not intended to promote hatred or division.
The rapper also criticised the controversy surrounding his public support for Palestinians. He argued that the slogan had become more controversial than the suffering that inspired it.
The Dublin concert featured several guest performers, including Irish musicians Hozier, Kneecap and Beoga. Palestinian performers Lina Makhoul and Habibeats also joined the event.
All proceeds from the three-show tour will support organisations working with Palestinians. The tour continues in Paris on October 29 and London on October 30.
Ed Sheeran Tour Controversy
Macklemore announced the tour after organisers removed him from Ed Sheeran’s US tour in September. The decision followed his pro-Palestinian remarks during performances at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
The rapper had urged audiences to support Palestinian freedom and highlighted the suffering in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. His comments sparked criticism from some groups and prompted calls for his removal.
Tour promoter Messina Touring Group later said venue restrictions threatened the remaining shows. It subsequently removed Macklemore from the lineup.
Sheeran clarified that he had not made the decision himself. He also defended his approach to activism, saying artists could support peace through different methods.
Macklemore has continued to use his platform to advocate for Palestinians. His latest tour reflects his determination to keep raising awareness despite the professional consequences.
