LAHORE: The University of Lahore (UoL) claimed the title of the All Pakistan Inter-University Women’s Football Championship after defeating Women University Lahore 2-1 in a thrilling final at the Peshawar Board Ground.
Organized by the Directorate of Sports at Islamia College Peshawar, the five-day tournament brought together eight university teams from across the country, reflecting the growing popularity of women’s football at the university level.
The final was closely contested, with both teams heading into halftime tied 1-1. However, the University of Lahore scored the decisive goal late in the second half to secure the championship trophy.
In the third-place playoff, the University of Lahore defeated the University of Management and Technology 3-1 to conclude another successful outing in the competition.
The tournament featured teams from Lahore College for Women University, Superior University, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, the University of Lahore, Garrison University, Government College University Lahore and other higher education institutions from across Pakistan.
Brigadier Mubashir Abbasi attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and presented trophies, medals and awards to the winning teams and outstanding players. Other distinguished guests included Malik Latif, Chief Coordination Officer of North West Hospital, Peshawar Board Director Sports Manzar Khan, former Pakistan football captain Colonel (retd) Nauman and Director Sports at Islamia College Peshawar Ali Hoti.
The championship was inaugurated by Higher Education Commission Executive Director Dr Ziaul Haq. Participants and officials praised the successful organization of the event, describing it as an important initiative for promoting women’s football and encouraging greater participation in sports among female students across Pakistan.
