A dam under construction in Balochistan’s Ormara Tehsil collapsed on Saturday, resulting in significant disruptions as rain and snowfall impacted various cities in the province. The Basool Dam collapse released a substantial amount of water, leading to flooding along the coastal highway.
Officials closed traffic at Ormara, including the bridge, as floodwaters posed risks. Authorities have urged residents in nearby areas to relocate to safer locations. The incident adds to the challenges faced by the region due to adverse weather conditions.
Several places, including Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Kozak Top, and Qilla Saifullah, witnessed a blanket of white after experiencing snowfall. Meanwhile, reports indicate ongoing showers in Jhal Magsi, Loralai, and other areas.

Joint efforts by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Balochistan and the Frontier Corps (FC) successfully rescued at least nine people trapped in the flood in the Makran Division, as confirmed by the PDMA. The heavy rains and snowfall across different areas have prompted the PDMA Balochistan staff to remain on duty to address emerging situations.
The weather forecast from the Met Office indicates the continuation of rain accompanied by snowfall over hills in various regions of Balochistan, including Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah, during Friday and Saturday. The unpredictable weather conditions emphasize the need for continued vigilance and preparedness to address the challenges posed by natural disasters in the region.
