Ukraine has accused the United States of indirectly helping Russia by withholding early warnings of incoming missile attacks and restricting satellite internet services critical to Ukrainian military operations.
According to TRT World, the accusations followed two consecutive nights of Russian ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv. The strikes reportedly killed 15 people across Ukraine and damaged energy infrastructure in Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Chernihiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised Washington over the intelligence gaps, describing the situation as unjust. He also accused Moscow of showing disrespect towards US President Donald Trump by violating an announced energy ceasefire.
Zelenskyy appealed directly to Elon Musk to restore full connectivity to Starlink terminals used by Ukrainian forces. He expressed hope that the disruptions resulted from a technical problem rather than a deliberate decision.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian defence officials reported that restrictions on satellite terminals affected military drones travelling above certain speeds. The limitations reportedly weakened Ukraine’s ability to intercept Iranian-designed Shahed drones and target Russian positions.
Musk responded that the US government, rather than SpaceX, controlled restrictions affecting its military Starshield systems. He explained that the US military and the president ultimately determined their operating limits.
Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said connectivity for speeds up to 160 kilometres per hour was being restored. However, he stressed that removing the remaining restrictions was essential for Ukraine’s defence.
The dispute adds pressure to relations between Kyiv and Washington as Ukraine continues to seek military assistance and reliable intelligence support.
Meanwhile, Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev said contracts for supplying diesel to the United States would be finalised within days, adding another dimension to the evolving diplomatic situation.
