British counter-terrorism police have confirmed that officers found no improvised explosive devices during searches linked to a suspected plot targeting RAF Fairford, a military base used by US forces for operations against Iran.
Specialist investigators said they recovered petrol while conducting forensic examinations of vehicles stopped during the investigation. However, officers confirmed that no viable explosive devices were discovered.
Counter-terrorism authorities also carried out searches at several properties across London as part of the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, police have begun reducing security cordons and forensic examination areas around RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
Authorities expect all remaining cordons around the military facility to be removed completely by Wednesday, as investigative teams continue reviewing evidence gathered during the operation.
Five Men Released on Bail
Five men arrested on Sunday remain under investigation after police released them on bail. Senior counter-terrorism officials defended the decision, describing it as part of an established investigative process.
Laurence Taylor, head of national counter-terrorism policing, acknowledged that the decision could surprise members of the public. However, he said investigators based the move on their assessment of the available evidence and existing police powers.
Taylor stressed that releasing the suspects on bail did not bring the investigation to an end. Police will continue examining evidence and assessing whether further action is necessary.

The investigation centres on suspected activity connected to RAF Fairford, which has strategic importance because of its use by the United States military.
Although searches have so far failed to uncover viable explosive devices, the recovery of petrol and other evidence means investigators are continuing their inquiries.
