Police sources link sudden health deterioration to extreme heat and humidity as authorities provide limited details about circumstances
LAHORE: Two Punjab Police officers died after reportedly falling ill during an Elite Force training course in Lahore amid intense heat and humid weather conditions, according to police sources.
The deceased officers were identified as Syed Tasawwur Shah and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Arshad. Police sources said both officers were participating in training at an Elite Training Center when their health suddenly deteriorated.
The officers subsequently collapsed during the training session. Sources attributed their illness to extreme heat and high humidity, although authorities have not announced the findings of any formal investigation into the deaths.
Tasawwur Shah belonged to Jhelum district, while ASI Arshad was serving in the Sargodha region before joining the training course.
ASI Arshad Placed on Ventilator After Condition Worsens
Following the incident, officials shifted ASI Arshad to a hospital after his condition became critical.
Doctors placed him on a ventilator while attempting to stabilise his condition. However, despite receiving medical treatment, the police officer could not survive.
Meanwhile, authorities have not provided detailed information about the medical treatment given to Tasawwur Shah or the sequence of events leading to his death.
Police sources maintained that severe weather conditions affected both officers during the training programme.
Circumstances Surrounding Deaths Remain Unclear
However, police have not disclosed whether other personnel participating in the training experienced heat-related illness or required medical assistance.
Authorities have also not provided details about the duration or intensity of the training session, precautionary measures in place during extreme weather, or whether officials have ordered an inquiry.
The incident has drawn attention to the risks associated with physically demanding training during severe heat and humidity.
Meanwhile, police completed the required legal formalities following the deaths.
Officials subsequently handed over the bodies of both officers to their respective families for burial.
