Major Hospitals
RAWALPINDI: Two major hospitals in Rawalpindi district, one near Rawat and the other in Jorian Chakri, are nearing completion and are expected to significantly improve the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
These projects, initiated during the tenure of the previous government, have now entered the final stages of development, with operational launch preparations well underway.
The two hospitals, which together have an estimated cost exceeding Rs1.4 billion, are set to offer much-needed medical services to local communities.
The first of these is the Rawat Pothohar Town Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, which has a capacity of 100 beds. The second, located on Jorian Chakri Road near the Motorway, will accommodate 60 beds.
Construction of both hospital buildings has been completed, and the focus has now shifted to the procurement of medical equipment.
Final finishing touches, such as interior work and installation of necessary infrastructure, are expected to begin in the coming month.
The foundation stone for these healthcare facilities was laid by former federal minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, marking the beginning of a major effort to expand healthcare services in the region.
These hospitals are expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the medical needs of people living in and around Rawalpindi, especially by reducing the time it takes to access emergency medical care.
Both the Jorian Chakri Hospital and the Rawat Pothohar Town Hospital will feature key medical services, including outpatient departments (OPDs), emergency wards, and two to three operation theatres each.
A primary focus of these hospitals will be providing immediate emergency care for traffic accident victims, especially those injured on the heavily trafficked GT Road and Motorway.
Currently, it takes nearly two hours for patients to reach the District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi city, a delay that often proves critical in emergencies.
Beyond emergency services, these hospitals will also offer specialised care, including dedicated children’s and gynaecology wards.
The introduction of these services is expected to greatly improve healthcare access for women and children in the area.
The official opening of both hospitals is scheduled for December 31, 2024. MNA Engineer Qamarul Islam Rawat, Chairman of the District Coordination Development Committee, will inaugurate the Pothohar Town Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital.
The completion and operationalisation of these hospitals will mark a significant improvement in the healthcare services available to the residents of Rawalpindi district.
