At least one person was killed and two others injured after two helicopters collided while attempting to land near Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal on Tuesday.
The accident occurred at Pheriche village in Solukhumbu district, approximately 4,200 metres above sea level. The helicopters, operated by Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty, were transporting trekkers during Nepal’s busy autumn trekking season.
Local authorities identified the deceased as a 47-year-old Indian tourist. A passenger from New Zealand and a Nepali pilot sustained injuries in the collision.
Officials said rescuers transported the injured passenger to Kathmandu for medical treatment, while the pilot received initial medical assistance locally.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that both helicopters were attempting to land in the same area.
The incident occurred after heavy snowfall affected trekking routes in the Everest region. Helicopters provide essential transportation and emergency evacuation services because roads are unavailable in many high-altitude settlements.
The accident has raised fresh concerns about aviation safety in Nepal’s mountainous tourism destinations.
