At least two Federal Constabulary (FC) personnel were martyred and 18 others injured in a terrorist attack in Hangu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The incident occurred on Monday in the Torah Wadi area of Doaba, targeting an FC fort.
Details of the Attack
Kohat Regional Police Officer Abbas Majeed confirmed that terrorists opened fire on the FC personnel stationed at the fort. He added that while two FC officers were martyred, 18 others sustained injuries during the attack.
The FC soldiers responded promptly, engaging the attackers. Consequently, six terrorists were killed, though the assailants managed to escape with some of their fallen comrades’ bodies.
The martyred and injured personnel were immediately shifted to CMH Hospital after receiving first aid on-site.
Government Condemns Attack
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the terrorist assault on the FC fort in Hangu. He paid tribute to the officers who sacrificed their lives while resisting the attackers. Naqvi also directed authorities to ensure the injured received the best possible medical treatment.
In his statement, the Interior Minister highlighted that the attack was carried out by Fitna al Hindustan, a term recently used by the government to designate India-linked terrorist activities. Naqvi remarked, “The brave officers of the Federal Reserve Police sacrificed their lives to foil the attack of India-sponsored terrorists.”
Rising Terror Activities in KP and Balochistan
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror activities over the past year, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. This surge followed the end of a ceasefire between the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the government in November 2022.
Recent attacks have mostly targeted law enforcement agencies, police, and security personnel. In response, counterterrorism operations have intensified across the regions.
Earlier this month, militants attacked police checkpoints across KP, including Peshawar, Upper Dir, and Lower Dir, killing five officers and injuring eight more.
Additionally, in a recent operation in Hangu, nine terrorists were killed while three security personnel were injured during an exchange of fire. In another operation on July 16, three “wanted terrorists” were neutralized in KP’s Bannu district during a joint operation between regional police and the Counter Terrorism Department.
Security Measures and Public Safety
Authorities continue to reinforce security measures in Hangu and other vulnerable districts. Furthermore, coordination between law enforcement agencies has been strengthened to prevent future attacks. The sacrifices of FC personnel have been acknowledged nationwide, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against terrorism.
The Hangu attack underscores ongoing threats faced by Pakistan’s security forces. Consequently, the government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens and ensuring stability in high-risk areas.
