CCTV captures incident as residents demand stronger action against growing menace
LAHORE: Two young children sustained serious injuries after a stray dog attacked them in a housing society near Sundar, Lahore, intensifying public concern over the city’s growing stray dog problem.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the children were walking along a street when a stray dog suddenly charged at them. During the attack, the dog reportedly dragged a young girl before a passerby rushed to the scene and intervened, rescuing both children from further harm.
CCTV footage circulating on social media shows the attack and the quick response of the citizen who managed to pull the children to safety. The video has renewed calls for authorities to address the increasing number of stray dog attacks in residential neighbourhoods.
Both children suffered serious bite injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Residents express growing concern
The latest incident has prompted fresh criticism of local authorities, with residents saying stray dog attacks have become increasingly common despite repeated complaints and demands for effective action.
Many residents argue that the growing stray dog population poses a significant threat to public safety, particularly for children who often play or walk in residential streets.
The attack has also reignited debate over the need for a comprehensive and sustainable strategy to manage the city’s stray animal population.
Calls for urgent preventive measures
The incident comes only days after another tragic case in Lahore in which a child reportedly died after developing rabies following a stray dog bite. Several similar attacks involving children have also been reported across the city in recent weeks.
Residents have urged the Punjab government and local authorities to launch an effective campaign to control the stray dog population, remove dangerous animals from residential areas and strengthen public safety measures.
They have also called for improved vaccination, monitoring and emergency response systems to reduce the risk of future attacks and prevent further loss of life or serious injuries, especially among children and other vulnerable members of the community.
