Police arrested two suspects allegedly linked to the murder of Dr Akash Kumar during separate operations in Karachi. Authorities announced the arrests on Tuesday.
According to police, both suspects were also involved in robbery and facilitating criminal activities. Investigators have launched further inquiries to determine their roles in the murder and other offences.
Meanwhile, a large number of Dr Akash Kumar’s relatives and friends attended his last rites. The funeral rituals took place at the cremation ground in Karachi’s Garden area.
Family members demanded strict action against those responsible for the killing. They also urged authorities to ensure exemplary punishment for all involved.
Doctor Killed During Robbery
Dr Akash Kumar, a doctor at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, was shot during a robbery near Teen Talwar in Clifton. The incident occurred while he was with his father and cousin outside a bank.
According to South DIG Syed Asad Raza, armed suspects attempted to rob the family after following them. During the incident, the suspects opened fire while a private security guard also fired his weapon.
The attackers escaped after stealing approximately Rs 2.5 million. Dr Kumar suffered a gunshot wound and later passed away at a private hospital.
Investigation Into Shooting Continues
Police said the initial investigation found the fatal bullet was allegedly fired by the bank’s security guard. Authorities subsequently arrested the guard and recovered a spent casing from his pistol.
Investigators have also obtained CCTV footage and geo-fencing data to trace the suspects’ movements. Police said Dr Kumar had withdrawn Rs5 million from a private bank before the robbery.
The investigation remains underway as authorities continue collecting evidence and questioning the arrested suspects.
