Defence firm says domestically developed guided weapon demonstrated pinpoint accuracy against reinforced targets during latest trial
ANKARA: Turkish defence company Aselsan has successfully tested its Tolun-P bunker-busting guided munition using Baykar’s Bayraktar Akinci unmanned aerial vehicle, demonstrating the weapon’s precision-strike capabilities against heavily fortified targets.
Aselsan said it conducted the test on Friday and reported that the Tolun-P achieved pinpoint accuracy. The company developed the guided munition using domestic technologies intended to strengthen Türkiye’s ability to strike reinforced and concrete-protected positions.
The Tolun-P recently joined the 250-pound class of guided munitions and offers improved operational capabilities compared with conventional weapons designed for similar missions.
Weapon targets fortified military positions
According to Aselsan, the Tolun-P combines high kinetic energy with a specialised nose design that increases its ability to penetrate hardened structures and maximise damage inside the target.
The company said the munition can penetrate up to one metre, or approximately 39.4 inches, of reinforced concrete. Consequently, forces could deploy the weapon against underground shelters, command centres, fortified installations and armoured aircraft hangars.
Moreover, the Tolun-P uses the Sadak-4T multiple-payload pod, allowing aircraft such as the Akinci drone to carry several munitions simultaneously.
Operators can also programme the weapons’ electronic fuses from the cockpit within seconds, enabling platforms to engage multiple strategic targets during a single salvo.
Tolun family continues to expand
Meanwhile, Aselsan continues developing specialised versions of the Tolun guided-munition family for different operational requirements.
The product range includes the laser-guided Tolun-L, electronic-warfare-oriented Tolun-EW, full-rate Tolun-F and infrared-seeking Tolun-IIR.
Additionally, Aselsan has developed the Tolun-S for ground-launched operations, expanding the weapon family beyond airborne platforms.
The latest Akinci test highlights Türkiye’s continuing investment in domestically developed precision-guided weapons and unmanned combat aviation systems as its defence industry expands its range of locally produced technologies.
