US President Donald Trump has welcomed a new agreement under which Türkiye and Pakistan will provide military support to Saudi Arabia through the recently established Mecca Defence Alliance. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the White House before departing for Texas.
When asked about the decision by Türkiye and Pakistan to send military forces to Saudi Arabia under the alliance framework, Trump said both countries wanted to help Saudi Arabia. He described the move as positive and expressed support for the arrangement.
Mecca Defence Alliance Strengthens Cooperation
Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan agreed in August to establish the Mecca Defence Alliance to enhance collective security cooperation. Subsequently, the three countries moved to create permanent institutions and strengthen their joint deterrence and defence capabilities.
Earlier this week, senior political and military officials from the three countries met in Riyadh for an emergency session. During the meeting, they discussed measures to support Saudi Arabia’s defence while also exploring diplomatic solutions to regional challenges through dialogue.
Focus Remains on Regional Security
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the alliance framework allows for the rapid deployment of military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia when required. The participating countries also condemned attempts to target the holy cities of Mecca and Madinah and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Islamic holy sites.
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman said the alliance remains committed to confronting threats against the kingdom. Meanwhile, Turkish officials indicated that a related defence agreement could soon be submitted to parliament for ratification, potentially paving the way for future military deployments.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions and renewed Houthi attacks targeting Saudi infrastructure and military sites. Therefore, the alliance is expected to play a significant role in strengthening regional security cooperation among the participating countries.
