US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could experience unrest similar to France if Democrats win the upcoming midterm elections, using recent protests in France to rally support for Republicans.
Trump made the remarks on Monday during a campaign rally in Park City, Kansas, where he appeared alongside Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who is seeking re-election against Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton.
Referring to violent demonstrations and looting in France, Trump claimed that similar disorder could emerge in the United States if Democrats gain political power. He offered no evidence to support the prediction and criticised the opposition party over immigration and security policies.
The president also used anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim rhetoric during his speech, accusing Democrats of encouraging policies that could undermine American society. Civil rights advocates have repeatedly criticised such language, warning that it can reinforce discriminatory attitudes towards minority communities.
The rally came as Republicans face growing pressure ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Rising fuel prices, inflation and concerns about the economic impact of the Iran war have become major issues for voters.
Marshall is facing a competitive contest in Kansas, a traditionally Republican state that Trump won comfortably in the 2024 presidential election. His Democratic opponent, Hamilton, has criticised the administration’s tariff policies and economic management.
Hamilton’s campaign argued that rising fuel costs, healthcare expenses and concerns about government corruption remain key issues for Kansans.
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll placed Trump’s approval rating at 31 per cent, reflecting growing public dissatisfaction. Democrats are seeking enough congressional seats to overturn narrow Republican majorities in both chambers.
The campaign highlights the importance of economic concerns and immigration in the approaching midterm elections.
