Tensions have continued to escalate since the ceasefire that has lasted for several weeks as diplomatic efforts have been stalled between the two countries. The former president of the US, Donald Trump, was visibly unhappy about the most recent offer made by Iran.
Diplomatic efforts have become stagnant
According to state media reports, Iran came up with another draft offer through Pakistan. Nevertheless, the former president criticized Iran’s offer, claiming that he did not expect it to happen. Trump highlighted the internal disagreements that hinder the process.
Regional tensions and economic strain persist
Nevertheless, there is a lot of instability in the region despite the ceasefire. Israel has been attacking in southern Lebanon, causing casualties, and Iran continues to be in control of the strait of Hormuz and hence disrupting the global energy supply. The US has also exerted pressure on Iran through sanctions to prevent its sale of oil internationally.
Economically, Iran has suffered a lot since there is high inflation, thus most people cannot afford their basic requirements. People live in fear of another war because of their uncertainties.
While the two parties are willing to engage in talks to solve the situation, it looks like none of them is prepared to make a compromise yet.
