US President Donald Trump said he is considering launching a major military operation against Iran. However, he added that he has not made a final decision.
Speaking in a brief interview, Trump said any potential strikes could exceed those conducted during Operation Epic Fury. He described the possible action as a significantly larger military campaign.
Moreover, Trump acknowledged that such a decision would carry serious consequences. Nevertheless, he declined to provide a timeline for reaching a final decision.
Trump says military plans are ready
Trump told Axios that preparations for a possible operation were already complete. He said he was close to deciding whether to authorize the strikes.
Furthermore, he claimed the United States could launch the operation independently if necessary. He also said Israel would join the campaign immediately if requested.
However, Trump stressed that Washington does not require military assistance from any ally. He added that Israeli involvement could trigger retaliation from Iran.
President comments on possible negotiations
Trump also addressed the prospects of renewed negotiations with Tehran. He claimed Iranian officials wanted to negotiate but remained unwilling to finalize an agreement.
