United States President Donald Trump has suggested that additional countries may soon sign on to the Abraham Accords, the landmark normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab nations.
In an interview aired Sunday on Fox News, Trump linked the possibility of more nations joining the accords to recent U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which took place on June 21.
When asked if the military action against Iran had made it more likely that other states would follow suit in normalizing relations with Israel, Trump responded, “Yes. We already have some very good countries in there, and I believe we will begin adding more, because Iran was the main problem.”
Trump also claimed that Iran currently has no interest in reviving its nuclear program, implying that the recent U.S. actions have had a deterring effect.
The Abraham Accords, first brokered in 2020 under Trump’s administration, established diplomatic relations between Israel and countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. Speculation continues over which nations may join next, especially in the context of shifting regional dynamics and mounting pressure on Iran.
