US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that the ongoing war with Iran contributed to Republican losses in the November 3 midterm elections, as Democrats made significant gains in Congress.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump admitted that the conflict affected Republican candidates despite his claims that American voters supported his administration’s handling of Iran.
“I think a part of it was Iran,” Trump said, while defending his decisions and arguing that voters understood the importance of his actions.
Democrats are preparing to take control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, potentially creating major obstacles for Trump’s legislative agenda during the remainder of his presidency.
Trump warned that Democrats would send legislation he considered unacceptable to the White House, promising to veto such proposals.
“They’ll send over things that are insane, and I’ll veto them,” he said.
However, Trump suggested that prolonged disagreements could eventually encourage both parties to negotiate and reach compromises.
The election results reflect growing political challenges for Republicans amid concerns about the economic impact of the Iran conflict, rising living costs and fuel prices.
Democratic victories could significantly reshape the balance of power in Washington and increase congressional scrutiny of the administration’s domestic and foreign policies.
