ISLAMABAD: MNA M. Najeeb Haroon (NA-256) has paid the highest amount of tax than all the other elected representatives in Pakistan _ in Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies in the country. For tax year 2019, Najeeb Haroon paid 140.749 million rupees as tax, the highest amount than other elected public representatives in the country.
Similarly, Senator Talha Mahmood from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has paid the highest tax, Rs 32.280 million in 2019, followed by Senator and Finance Minister Shaukat Ahmed Tarin from KP who paid Rs 26.627 million as taxes.

Interestingly, in tax-year 2019, about 93 parliamentarians did not bother to file their tax returns in 2019, according to FBR new tax directory.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has published new tax directory on Jan 3, 2022, for the tax-year 2019. This tax directory is being published as part of one of the conditions of the International Monetary Fund.
Five MNAs who paid the highest tax
Five members of the National Assembly and five Senators have paid the highest amount of taxes in 2019, according to new tax director of the Federal Board of Revenue.

M. Najeeb Haroon, Saleh Muhammad, Sheikh Fayyaz-ud-Din, M. Yaqoob Shaikh and Shaukat Ali are the five highest tax-paying members of the National Assembly while M. Talha Mahmood, Shaukat Ahmed Tarin (Finance Minister) Farooq H. Naek, Dr. M. Farogh Naseem and Hafiz Abdul Karim are the top-5 tax-payers amongst the members of Senate of Pakistan.
MNA M. Najeeb Haroon paid the highest amount of tax than all the other elected representatives in the parliament, Senate and other legislative assemblies in the country. For tax year 2019, he paid 140.749 million rupees tax, followed by Saleh Muhammad who paid 21.505 million while MNAs Sheikh Fayya-ud-Din, M. Yaqoob Shaikh and Shaukat Ali paid 21.303 million, 16.718 million and 13.595 million tax respectively.

Top-5 tax-paying Senators
Among the top-five highest tax-paying Senators are M Talha Mahmood who paid (Rs 32.280 million), Shaukat Tarin (Finance Minister Rs26.627 million), Farooq H. Naek (Rs 4.908 million), Dr. M. Farogh Naseem (Rs4.285 million) and Hafiz Abdul Karim (Rs3.648 million).
Importantly, 93 parliamentarians did not bother to file their tax returns in 2019, according to FBR’s new tax directory.
