Suri Cruise Is Now Legally Known as Suri Noelle
Suri, the daughter of Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially dropped her father’s famous surname.
The 20-year-old is now legally known as Suri Noelle, according to voter registration records obtained by PEOPLE.
Public records show that she registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, under the name Suri Noelle during her freshman year in October 2024.
Noelle has a strong family connection.
It is the middle name of her mother, Katie Holmes.
Suri’s decision means she has replaced one of Hollywood’s most recognisable surnames with a name closely connected to her mother.
The development has attracted significant attention because Suri spent much of her childhood in the public spotlight as the only child of Cruise and Holmes.
However, she has maintained a relatively private life as she has grown older.
Name First Appeared Publicly at 2024 Graduation
The change did not appear publicly for the first time in 2026.
Suri had already used the name Suri Noelle when she graduated from New York City’s LaGuardia High School in June 2024.
Her graduation programme listed her under the new name rather than Suri Cruise.
At the time, it was unclear whether the change was simply a personal or professional choice.
The recently reported Pennsylvania voter registration records have now provided stronger confirmation that Noelle is her legal surname.
Suri later moved to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University.
She is currently studying at the university and has continued using the name Suri Noelle publicly.
The name change comes as she enters adulthood and begins developing an identity outside the intense celebrity attention that surrounded her childhood.
Reports have described the decision as part of her effort to establish an independent identity, although Suri herself has not publicly explained her reasons in detail.
Suri Builds Life Away From Her Famous Parents’ Careers
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes married in 2006 and divorced in 2012.
Following their separation, Suri was largely raised by Holmes in New York City and has generally remained outside the Hollywood spotlight.
Holmes has repeatedly spoken about protecting her daughter’s privacy.
In 2024, she publicly challenged false reports about Suri’s finances and said inaccurate stories could place unwanted attention on her daughter.
Suri has nevertheless shown an interest in performing.
Recent reports say she has been participating in theatrical productions alongside fellow Carnegie Mellon students as she continues her studies.
Her decision to use Noelle also follows a wider pattern among some children of major celebrities who have altered or dropped famous family surnames while establishing their own careers and identities.
For Suri, the change marks another visible step into adulthood.
While the Cruise surname connected her immediately with one of the world’s biggest movie stars, the name Suri Noelle places the focus increasingly on the identity she is building for herself.
