LAHORE: A two-year-old child has died after consuming contaminated milk in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony, while his three-year-old brother remains in critical condition.
According to police, the children’s parents purchased milk from a local dairy shop and fed it to their sons. Shortly afterwards, both children developed serious health complications and were rushed to Lahore General Hospital for emergency treatment.
However, doctors could not save the younger child, Faizan, who died during treatment. His elder brother, Zain, remains in critical condition and is receiving medical care.
Superintendent of Police Model Town Asad Ali confirmed that police had taken two individuals associated with the dairy shop into custody following the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected milk contamination.
Meanwhile, forensic experts have collected evidence and milk samples for laboratory testing. The Punjab Food Department has also been involved in the investigation to determine whether the milk contained harmful substances.
Officials said the laboratory findings and medical reports would help establish the exact cause of the child’s death and his brother’s illness.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and quality of loose milk sold by local vendors. Contaminated dairy products can pose serious health risks, particularly to young children.
Police said further action would depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are expected to determine whether negligence or contamination contributed to the incident after receiving the test results.
The case has once again highlighted the importance of food safety inspections and effective monitoring of milk supplies to protect public health.
