Three women were found dead inside a house in the Block 1 area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, on Sunday, according to police and rescue officials. Alongside the fatalities, a man was discovered in an unconscious condition, and he was immediately taken for medical attention.
Initial observations by police suggested that the deaths may have been caused by suffocation due to a suspected gas leak. Authorities, however, emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Rescue teams responded promptly to the scene and coordinated with local law enforcement to secure the area and assist affected individuals.
Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar took immediate notice of the incident, directing the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for East District to ensure a transparent and comprehensive investigation. Authorities are working to confirm whether the suspected gas leak was the sole cause or if other factors contributed to the tragedy.
This incident follows a series of similar cases in Karachi over the past month, highlighting concerns about gas safety in residential areas. Last month, a gas explosion in Korangi No. 6 left a woman severely injured, who later succumbed to her burn injuries in hospital. In another case in Ranchore Line, a match ignited a blast in a residential flat, injuring a couple and their two daughters, who were subsequently hospitalized.
Police have reiterated the importance of maintaining gas safety measures in homes to prevent such accidents, urging residents to ensure proper ventilation and regular maintenance of gas lines and appliances.
The current investigation aims to identify any lapses or negligence that may have contributed to the deaths in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, while authorities work to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The incident has drawn attention to urban gas safety, with officials stressing the need for public awareness and strict adherence to safety protocols to protect lives and prevent further mishaps.
