Severe snowfall continues to impact northern regions, causing travel disruptions and communication challenges. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, an avalanche in the Dodgai area claimed the lives of three young men. Rescue efforts were temporarily halted due to extreme weather but resumed on Tuesday.
Akhtar Ayub, head of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), highlighted the difficulties in the search operation due to persistent snowfall and lack of mobile connectivity in the affected area.
Other parts of Neelum Valley, including Grace Valley, Sardari, Urang Kel, and Sargan Jagran, have recorded significant snowfall, leading to multiple road closures. The Leepa Valley is also facing travel restrictions as heavy snow isolates remote settlements.
Widespread Disruptions
The harsh weather has affected other regions as well. In Skardu, continuous snowfall since Monday night has prompted authorities to issue a travel advisory. A scheduled Skardu-Islamabad flight was canceled on Tuesday due to poor visibility.
In Swat’s Kalam Valley, snowfall has continued for the second consecutive day, with over a foot recorded in the last 48 hours. The Meteorological Department predicts further snowfall in the coming days.
Mansehra and its surrounding areas, including Shogran, Kaghan, and Naran, are also experiencing snowfall. Shogran has received two inches, while Kaghan has recorded over four inches in the past day.
Meanwhile, Murree and Galiyat are witnessing heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, leading to prolonged power outages.
Weather Outlook
Rain continues in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, making the weather pleasant while enhancing the scenic beauty of the twin cities. The Meteorological Department forecasts that wet conditions will persist across most parts of the country until March 2.
Authorities have advised residents and travelers to exercise caution in snow-affected regions, where road closures and extreme weather pose serious risks.
