A tragic explosion in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Tuesday claimed the lives of three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, including a senior officer, and left three others injured. The attack occurred in the Kurdgap area, where a vehicle belonging to the FC Quick Response Team was targeted.
According to initial security sources, the incident was the result of an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the roadside. The device was remotely detonated as the FC vehicle passed during a routine patrol, resulting in severe damage to the vehicle and casualties among the personnel onboard.
The explosion led to the martyrdom of three FC members, among them a commanding officer. The injured were promptly shifted to a nearby healthcare facility for emergency medical treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been disclosed publicly.
In response to the attack, the area was immediately sealed off by law enforcement agencies. Police and Frontier Corps personnel cordoned off the blast site to prevent further threats and to initiate an extensive search operation. Bomb disposal units were also deployed to inspect the area for any additional explosive devices or signs of a coordinated attack.
Security officials believe the attack was premeditated, aimed at destabilizing the region and targeting security forces engaged in maintaining law and order. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, but investigations are ongoing to determine those behind the act and their possible affiliations.
The attack underscores the persistent threat posed by militant elements in the region, where security personnel are frequently targeted by IEDs and ambushes during routine and intelligence-based operations. The sacrifice of FC personnel in such incidents is often regarded as a testament to the ongoing challenges faced by forces combating terrorism and ensuring peace in volatile districts like Mastung.
The incident is expected to reignite concerns over the resurgence of militant activity in parts of Balochistan and may lead to increased surveillance and security sweeps in the surrounding areas.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the search operation continues. Additional reinforcements have also been dispatched to support ongoing efforts to apprehend those responsible.
