Three people were killed and dozens injured after attacks struck major airports in Riyadh and Abha, Saudi authorities said.
The incidents targeted Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Tuesday and Wednesday. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority confirmed damage at both locations.
An Egyptian and an Algerian national were killed at Abha airport.
A Sudanese national died in the attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.
Authorities said 36 people were injured across the two airports. Their injuries ranged from minor to severe. All wounded passengers and workers were transported to hospitals for medical treatment.
The attacks also caused material damage to airport facilities.
Saudi officials did not immediately identify those responsible. However, Yemen’s Houthi fighters later claimed attacks on both airports as regional tensions continued to rise.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group used missiles and drones against several Saudi targets.
He claimed that Abha airport, Riyadh airport and King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait were among the locations targeted.
The Saudi-led coalition said a missile heading toward Riyadh airport was intercepted. It later announced that the ballistic missile launch platform used in the attack had been destroyed.
The latest attacks come amid renewed fighting between Houthi forces and Yemen’s internationally recognised government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia.
The escalation has increased security concerns across the kingdom, particularly around airports and other civilian infrastructure.
Saudi authorities are continuing to assess the damage while maintaining security operations around the affected facilities.
The incidents highlight the growing risks facing civilian aviation as the Yemen conflict intensifies.
