Pakistan’s automobile industry has undergone a major transformation in recent years, driven by rising consumer demand and investor confidence. Government incentives under the Auto Policy 2016–2021 encouraged global and local manufacturers to expand operations, making Pakistan one of the fastest-growing car markets in the region.
In 2016 alone, over 230,000 vehicles were sold nationwide. Since mid-2016, more than 150,000 cars and jeeps have been sold, while total vehicle sales—including buses, trucks, and tractors—exceeded 200,000 units. The market showed a strong annual growth rate of 10–15 percent.
Toyota, Suzuki, and Honda Dominate Sales
Among locally assembled vehicles, Toyota, Suzuki, and Honda remained the undisputed leaders.
Toyota Corolla Tops the List
The Toyota Corolla retained its position as Pakistan’s most sold car, with 40,694 units sold in the first nine months of the fiscal year. Available in multiple variants such as XLi, GLi, Altis, and Altis Grande, prices ranged from PKR 1.65 million to PKR 2.38 million.
Suzuki Mehran Still a Bestseller
Despite criticism over its outdated design, the Suzuki Mehran ranked second with 28,036 units sold, proving its continued popularity among budget-conscious buyers.
Honda City & Civic
Combined sales of Honda City and Civic reached 28,120 units, reflecting a 50 percent growth compared to the previous year, driven by the Civic’s new sporty design.
Other Strong Performers
Other top-selling vehicles included Suzuki Bolan, Ravi pickup, Wagon R, Cultus, Toyota Hilux, and Suzuki Swift. Suzuki dominated the list with multiple entries, reinforcing its strong foothold in Pakistan’s auto market.
