KARACHI: The Sindh government will launch a special Thar Desert Train Safari on Thursday as part of celebrations marking Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
The special train will depart from Karachi and travel through Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot before reaching the Chhor and Khokhrapar region near the Pakistan-India border. The journey will offer tourists an opportunity to explore Sindh’s rich cultural heritage, historical sites and scenic desert landscapes.
Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah will inaugurate the Thar Desert Train Safari at Karachi Cantonment Railway Station.
Over 165 Tourists Join Independence Day Safari
More than 165 tourists are expected to participate in the special journey. The tour will include visits to historical and cultural landmarks across Sindh, along with selected locations near the Pakistan-India border.
A special Independence Day ceremony will also take place at Parchi Ji Veri, where participants will celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
Tourists will receive a warm welcome at several railway stations along the route. Participants will also distribute national flags among the public to promote patriotic spirit and encourage participation in Independence Day celebrations.
Thar Desert Train Safari Offers Culture and Adventure
The train will operate from Karachi towards Chhor, passing through Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas. The route is designed to give passengers a closer look at Sindh’s diverse culture and the unique landscapes of the Thar Desert.
Activities at Chhor and Parchi Ji Veri will include sunset viewing, a bonfire, traditional music and dinner. Participants can choose to stay overnight onboard the train, at designated campsites or at resorts in the area.
The Thar Desert Train Safari is expected to combine tourism, culture and Independence Day celebrations while highlighting Sindh’s historical attractions and desert heritage.
