GUJRANWALA: Police have arrested a 17-year-old girl for allegedly killing her 15-year-old sister after a dispute over TikTok followers and money in Gujranwala.
The incident occurred on August 30 within the jurisdiction of Ladhe Wala Waraich police station. Police said both sisters regularly created videos for TikTok and other social media platforms.
According to the preliminary investigation, the dispute began over social media followers and financial matters. The argument reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation on the rooftop of their home.
Police said the elder sister, identified as Kainat, allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attacked her younger sister, Zobia Manahil. The 15-year-old suffered a stab wound to her lower back.
Zobia reportedly lost a significant amount of blood and died at the scene. Family members attempted to provide first aid, but were unable to save her.
The victim’s father, Abdul Shakoor Khan, later registered a First Information Report (FIR) against his daughter, resulting in Kainat’s arrest.
Family Reportedly Hesitated to Approach Police
According to the FIR, Abdul Shakoor, a driver and father of seven children, was at home with two sons-in-law when they heard a disturbance on the rooftop.
The family found the two sisters arguing over money. The FIR alleges that Kainat then took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Zobia in the back.
SP City Gujranwala Hina Naik Bakht told ARY News that the family did not initially inform police about the incident. Authorities reportedly learned about the death after Rescue 1122 was called.
Police teams faced resistance from family members when they reached the location, as relatives were initially reluctant to pursue legal action.
Police said the accused later confessed during preliminary questioning and claimed that the dispute was linked to TikTok followers.
Dispute Allegedly Escalated Over TikTok Followers
According to police, Kainat allegedly believed that her younger sister had more TikTok followers and accused her of taking away followers from her.
The disagreement reportedly intensified before turning into a physical confrontation.
Police have recovered the alleged murder weapon and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities also said the accused damaged her mobile phone because she believed it could be used as evidence. The damaged device has been sent for forensic examination.
Police Warn Against Withdrawal of Case
SP Hina Naik Bakht expressed concern that the victim’s family could later attempt to withdraw the case or reach a settlement.
Police said they would include relevant non-compoundable provisions in the FIR where legally applicable. Such provisions cover serious offences that cannot simply be withdrawn through a private settlement.
The police officer said authorities would ensure that the investigation and prosecution proceed according to law.
Sisters Were Active on Social Media
Police said both sisters were active on TikTok and other social media platforms.
According to family members, the sisters created videos with the aim of becoming financially independent. Their content reportedly included food-vlogging videos and other social media material.
Police are continuing the investigation. Forensic analysis of the recovered evidence, including the damaged mobile phone, is also expected to assist investigators in establishing further details of the case.
