KARACHI: In a horrifying incident in Karachi, a teacher reportedly attacked a female student with acid after she rejected his friendship. The acid attack, which took place near Nepa Chowrangi, resulted in injuries to three individuals, including the student.
The 21-year-old female student was at a private academy to receive her completion certificate when the teacher allegedly assaulted her and her two cousins with acid in retaliation for her refusal to be friends.
Local residents intervened, apprehending the teacher and handing him over to the police. The three injured individuals were promptly taken to the Burns Ward of Civil Hospital for medical attention.
Authorities have confirmed the filing of a case in connection with the incident. This disturbing event sheds light on the vulnerability of individuals, especially women, to acts of violence and emphasizes the critical need to address and prevent such heinous crimes in society. Legal proceedings are crucial in ensuring justice for the victims and serving as a deterrent against future reprehensible acts.

Over the years, Pakistan has witnessed numerous cases of acid attacks, primarily affecting young women. Acid attacks are barbaric crimes that inflict physical and psychological scars on victims for a lifetime. It is disheartening that such incidents persist, despite legislative efforts to curb the crime.
Recent cases underscore the urgent need for comprehensive measures to ensure the strict regulation and control of acid access, alongside effective enforcement of existing laws. Addressing this issue requires a collective effort from society, law enforcement, and policymakers to protect individuals from such brutal and life-altering acts of violence.
