Security forces launch operation while funeral prayers held with full state honours
SWAT: The death toll from the suicide bombing outside Kabal Police Station in Swat increased to 16 on Monday after two injured police constables died while receiving treatment in hospital, according to 24NewsHD.
Authorities said the latest victims were Constables Mukarram Khan and Hussain Khan, who succumbed to their injuries despite medical efforts. Officials added that 13 other police personnel remain under treatment.
According to a police spokesperson, the attack claimed the lives of seven police officers and nine civilians. Investigators said they had identified the suspected suicide bomber as an Afghan national after recovering a severed head from the blast site. However, officials have not yet released the individual’s identity publicly.
Investigation and security operation continue
Security forces have launched a search and sanitisation operation in and around the area to locate and arrest those believed to have facilitated the attack.
Investigators are collecting forensic evidence and examining the circumstances surrounding the bombing as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Authorities said the operation will continue until all individuals allegedly linked to the incident are identified and brought to justice.
Funeral prayers offered with state honours
Funeral prayers for five of the fallen police officers were held at the Swat Police Training School with full state honours. Senior civil, military and police officials attended the ceremony before the bodies were transported to their hometowns for burial.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the suicide attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
He extended condolences to the families of the victims and praised the police personnel who, according to officials, sacrificed their lives while attempting to stop the attacker from entering Kabal Police Station.
The minister described the officers’ actions as an example of courage and commitment to protecting the public.
Authorities have reiterated their resolve to continue counterterrorism operations and pursue everyone involved in planning or facilitating the attack as investigations remain underway.
