The main accused in the Surjani Town quadruple murder case was killed during a police operation in Karachi on Friday.
Police identified the suspect as Muhammad Humayun Khan, son of Hassan Khan.
He was arrested in connection with the September 14 murder of a woman and her three children in Sector 7-D, Surjani Town.
The victims were identified as 34-year-old Mehwish, wife of Muhammad Danish, and her three children.
The children were 8-year-old Mir Haad, 6-year-old Hasnain and 2-year-old Ashmira.
Police alleged that the suspect killed the victims by striking them with an iron rod.
Suspect Shot During Weapon Recovery Operation
Police said Humayun Khan was taken to a location to recover the alleged murder weapon.
According to officials, the suspect allegedly snatched a police officer’s pistol during the operation.
Police said he then opened fire while attempting to escape.
The firing injured Assistant Sub-Inspector Nauman Sheikh.
Police officers returned fire, saying they acted in self-defence.
Humayun sustained gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Police later recovered the allegedly snatched pistol and an iron rod from the location.
His body was shifted to a hospital for legal and medico-legal procedures.
Investigators are examining the recovered weapons and other evidence linked to the quadruple murder.
Accused’s Statement Emerges
A statement attributed to Humayun Khan also surfaced after the incident.
In the statement, he reportedly admitted killing his wife and three children.
He also claimed to have a psychological illness and denied being a drug addict or motivated by money.
According to the statement, a dispute had occurred between him and his wife before the killings.
He said he was returning home when his children came back after Quran recitation.
He claimed that seeing the children frightened him and that he subsequently lost consciousness.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish the complete circumstances of the killings and the subsequent encounter.
