ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) issued an order on Monday mandating a re-election in PB-50 Qalaabdullah, Balochistan. The decision came following a plea filed by Zamrik Khan challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) ruling.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court invalidated the ECP’s recount order in PB-50 Balochistan and directed the ECP to ensure transparent elections in accordance with the constitution of Pakistan.
Previously, the Election Commission had suspended the victory notification of the ANP candidate from Balochistan Assembly Constituency PB-50 Qila Abdullah and instructed re-polling at six polling stations.
The victory notification of Zamrik Khan, the candidate from PB-50, will remain suspended until the results of the re-polling are determined.
On February 20, a petition was filed with the Supreme Court against alleged rigging during the 2024 general elections.
Citizen Mian Shabbir Ahmed, represented by lawyer Azhar Siddique, lodged the plea with the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, seeking a judicial commission to investigate the rigging allegations.
The petition contends that widespread “rigging” took place across the country during the recent general elections, emphasizing the necessity of an inquiry to uphold the fundamental rights of citizens.
