ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Adiala jail authorities to transfer PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed issued the order while hearing petitions about Khan’s medical treatment and family meetings.
The court also directed authorities to submit Khan’s complete medical record at the next hearing.
Court Seeks Complete Medical Record
Justice Waheed questioned why authorities had submitted only a summary of Khan’s medical condition.
He said the court needed the complete medical record instead. The bench also reviewed a report submitted by Adiala jail authorities.
Justice Waheed observed that Khan’s pulse and heart condition were abnormal. He also noted that vital organs had reportedly started showing effects.
Meanwhile, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan asked whether doctors could perform the recommended angiography inside the jail.
The Islamabad advocate general said doctors could conduct the procedure at a hospital outside the prison.
PTI Asked to Avoid Politicising Health
PTI lawyer Uzair Bhandari requested meetings for Dr Uzma Khan and Dr Aasim Yusuf with Imran Khan.
However, he later suggested allowing Dr Faisal Sultan to examine the PTI founder.
The court also discussed media statements following medical and family meetings. Authorities claimed a previous assurance against media talks had been violated.
Furthermore, Justice Waheed warned that contempt proceedings could follow if court directions were breached.
The bench asked PTI and Khan’s family to provide an undertaking against media interactions after meetings. Justice Afghan also urged PTI to resolve the issue internally and avoid politicising Khan’s health condition.
