President Approves Revised Salaries and Benefits for Supreme Court Judges
The basic salaries of Supreme Court judges have been increased by around Rs400,000 per month under a revised compensation package.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the changes on the recommendation of the federal government.
The revision is aimed at bringing the salaries and benefits of Supreme Court judges in line with those of judges serving in the Federal Constitutional Court.
The new package will take effect retrospectively from December 10, 2025.
This means eligible judges will also receive arrears and other financial benefits accumulated from the effective date.
A formal notification will be issued under the title Supreme Court Judges’ Salary Order 2026.
Under the revised structure, the Chief Justice of Pakistan will receive a monthly basic salary of Rs1.55 million.
Other Supreme Court judges will receive a monthly basic salary of Rs1.5 million.
Previously, the basic salary of Supreme Court judges stood at around Rs1.1 million per month.
The revision therefore represents an increase of approximately Rs400,000 in their monthly basic pay.
Judicial Allowance Increased to Rs1.5 Million Per Month
The government has also significantly increased the judicial allowance available to Supreme Court judges.
The monthly judicial allowance has been raised from Rs1,161,163 to Rs1.5 million.
This represents an increase of approximately Rs338,837 per month.
The higher judicial allowance will be paid in addition to the revised basic salary and other benefits available under the package.
The changes will substantially increase the overall monthly compensation received by Supreme Court judges.
Because the revised rates are effective from December 10, 2025, judges will also be entitled to arrears for the previous months.
The exact amount of arrears will depend on the period covered and the revised salary and allowance calculations for individual judges.
Pension Rules Revised as Judges Get Rs150,000 Medical Allowance
The revised package also introduces changes to pension-related provisions for Supreme Court judges.
Under one pension provision, an age limit has been increased from 70 years to 75 years.
Another age threshold included in the pension framework has been raised from 85 years to 90 years.
These changes form part of the broader revision of financial benefits and retirement provisions for members of the Supreme Court judiciary.
Supreme Court judges will also receive a monthly medical allowance of Rs150,000.
The medical allowance will be provided alongside their revised salary, judicial allowance and other approved benefits.
The new compensation structure will become formally applicable once the Supreme Court Judges’ Salary Order 2026 is notified.
The retrospective implementation means the financial impact of the decision will extend back to December 2025 rather than beginning from the notification date.
