LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken up for hearing the petition of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s against the ruling of Punjab Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari which cancelled 10 votes of Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q). The rejection of PML-Q MPAs votes led to the victory of Hamza Shehbaz with three votes lead.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan are hearing the petition at the Supreme Court-Lahore Registry on Saturday.
The Supreme Court has summoned Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari at 2pm with the direction to submit record of election, including letter of Ch. Shujaat Hussain.
Pervaiz Elahi had submitted the application through Advocate Aamir Saeed. In his application, Speaker Punjab Assembly requested the court to hear the application today.
Mazari’s decision to cancel 10 votes of PML-Q MPAs comes after he claimed to have received a letter from PML-Q Chief Shujaat Hussain in which PML-Q supremo who asked his party’s MPAs not to vote for Pervez Elahi.
In the letter Chaudhry Shujaat had directed his party members to vote in favor of Hamza Shahbaz in the run-off polls for CM Punjab.
“I confirmed the letter with Ch Shujaat Hussain three times on the phone,” Mazari said.
The cancellation Q-League votes deprived Pervez Elahi from becoming Chief Minister though he secured 186 votes against 179 of Hamza Shehbaz.
Meanwhile, Governor Punjab administered oath to Hamza Shehbaz as Chief Minister of Punjab on Saturday morning.
