A tragic suicide blast struck a wedding at a peace committee leaderโs home in Dera Ismail Khan, killing three people. The incident occurred at the residence of Aman Committee head Noor Alam Mehsud near Qureshi Mor. Police confirmed that seven others, including Mehsud, sustained injuries.
The blast happened while the marriage event was underway. Immediate action by local authorities ensured the injured were shifted to hospitals. Five critical cases were moved to the DHQ Trauma Centre for urgent treatment.
Victims of the Attack
The deceased include Waheedullah Mehsud alias Jigri, Abdul Majeed Lagri Advocate, and a 29-year-old unidentified youth. Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the explosion.
Initial findings indicate that the attack was a suicide bombing. Reports also suggest that the attackers opened fire after the explosion.
Government Response and Condemnation
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the attack. He demanded an immediate report from the provincial police chief.
The chief minister also directed authorities to provide the best medical care to the injured. He emphasized that those responsible for the blast will face justice.
Rising Cross-Border Terrorism
Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has seen an increase in cross-border terrorist incidents. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which border Afghanistan, remain most affected.
The military conducted 75,175 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across Pakistan in 2025. Of these, 14,658 took place in KP, 58,778 in Balochistan, and 1,739 in other regions.
In total, 5,397 terrorism-related incidents were reported nationwide last year. KP experienced 3,811 incidents, Balochistan 1,557, and 29 occurred elsewhere. Counterterror operations killed 2,597 terrorists across the country.
Afghan Militants and Civilian Targets
Officials noted that civilians and soft targets were deliberately attacked. Afghan militants were reportedly involved in all major incidents. Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban to prevent its soil from being used against Pakistan.
Recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated due to cross-border attacks. Pakistani forces have responded to these provocations to secure the border and protect civilians.
Conclusion
The DI Khan suicide blast highlights ongoing security challenges in Pakistanโs border regions. Authorities continue to strengthen counterterrorism measures to prevent further attacks. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
