At least 21 people were killed and more than 40 injured in a drone strike on a market in Sudan’s Darfur region. Meanwhile, separate attacks on electricity infrastructure triggered widespread power outages across eastern Sudan.
According to medical officials, the deadly market attack occurred in Nyala on Monday evening, October 26, 2026.
The city serves as the main stronghold of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Deadly Drone Attack Hits Nyala Market
Witnesses reported that a drone targeted a busy market in northern Nyala around 8pm local time.
A medical worker at Nyala Hospital confirmed 21 deaths and more than 40 injuries.
However, officials could not determine how many victims were civilians or RSF fighters.
Sudan’s military has repeatedly targeted Nyala during its ongoing conflict with the RSF.
Drone Strikes Leave Millions Without Electricity
Meanwhile, RSF drones reportedly attacked six power stations across eastern Sudan on Monday.
The strikes disrupted electricity supplies in Al-Jazira, White Nile, Sennar, and Gedaref states.
Another attack on Tuesday targeted the Al-Markhiyat transformer station, affecting electricity supplies across Khartoum and Al-Jazira.
The outages have increased pressure on hospitals, water facilities, and essential public services.
Sudan Faces Growing Hunger and Displacement Crisis
Sudan’s civil war began in April 2023 following tensions between the army and RSF.
Aid workers estimate that more than 200,000 people have died since the conflict began.
United Nations figures indicate that drone strikes killed over 300 people during the first three weeks of October.
Meanwhile, 30 countries have warned that urgent international intervention is necessary to prevent worsening famine conditions.
The continuing violence threatens millions already struggling with hunger, displacement, and limited access to essential services.
