Pipeline Modification Under BRT Project to Affect Multiple Areas
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced a temporary gas shutdown in several parts of Karachi due to pipeline modification work connected to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project near the Nipa Flyover.
According to the company, authorities will conduct lowering work on a 20-inch high-pressure gas pipeline after receiving a request from TransKarachi under Phase II of the BRT project.
Officials stated that the operation will begin at 10pm on May 23 and continue until 5am on Sunday. However, SSGC warned that technical requirements could extend the work period if necessary.
Additionally, authorities said repair and restoration activities may continue until approximately 8am to ensure the system returns to normal operation.
Meanwhile, officials advised consumers in affected areas to prepare for temporary disruptions during the scheduled maintenance period.
Hospitals and Residential Areas Expected to Experience Supply Disruptions
During the operation, SSGC confirmed that gas supply would remain temporarily suspended in several locations, including major institutions and surrounding areas.
The affected sites include Liaquat National Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, and Karachi Central Prison.
Furthermore, the company warned that consumers in SITE Industrial Area and several nearby localities could experience low gas pressure throughout the maintenance process.
The affected areas also include all blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Lines Area, PHS Society, Saddar, Kharadar, Lyari, and Garden.
Officials stated that SSGC would notify consumers once authorities complete the work and restore gas supply across the affected regions.
Meanwhile, the company apologised for inconvenience caused during the operation and urged consumers to cooperate while technical teams complete the required infrastructure work.
The maintenance activity forms part of broader infrastructure adjustments linked to ongoing transportation development projects within Karachi.
